About The Cathay Gallery
Nestled in a private turn on the 2nd storey of the building, The Cathay Gallery is a visual feast of rich history and humble beginnings. Think of it as a walk down memory lane, an illustrative showcase that tells a rags-to-riches story of the Loke family.
Like many immigrants before them, Loke Yew and his family (including young son Dato Loke Wan Tho) left the impoverished shores of Southern China by boat for "Nanyang" (Southern Ocean) in search of fortune.
A story of initial hardship and suffering, a journey of entrepreneurial accomplishments and a succession of philanthropic acts of the Loke family fill the gallery with nostalgia and historical facts. The collection has served as inspiration for his children and the generations after them. And the gallery aims to bring their stories to you.
Immerse in the history of the Loke family with unique collection of memorabilia that the family has kept over the years. This includes items related to their businesses, interests such as art and photography as well as personal items.
Often, The Cathay Gallery also hosts other art showcases. Check this space for updates of exhibitions.

This interactive exhibition offers a glimpse of the creative and unique ways of movie promotion from the 1930s until the present – excavating rarely seen images and vintage pieces from the Cathay collection and archives. Promotional strategies ranged from the dynamic and creative, to the unsophisticated and gimmicky, to the cheeky and somewhat risqué, to the quirky and disarming.
